Recession may be over, but what about jobs?

Recession or not, the issue of jobs isn’t about to die down soon among officials and activists.

In case you missed it, our weekend Truth-O-Meter rulings were all about jobs, from the number of unemployed black Americans increasing during President Barack Obama’s tenure – a Half True — to New Jersey’s Democratic Party chairman claiming no new jobs are being created in the Garden State – a False.

New Jersey Tea Party ruling

The New Jersey Tea Party on Sept. 2 retweeted a statement by a conservative blogger that since Obama’s been in office, a net additional 540,000 black Americans have lost jobs. PolitiFact New Jersey confirmed that number with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. But we found that Obama can’t be completely to blame, even though some experts said otherwise. That’s why the Truth-O-Meter came up Half True on this claim.

Wisniewski ruling

Assemblyman John Wisniewski, the state’s Democratic Party chairman, claimed that although Gov. Chris Christie talks about job creation, jobs are not being created in New Jersey. The Truth-O-Meter rang out a False on that claim because the state has seen an increase in the number of total nonfarm jobs over the past year, driven by private-sector growth.
