Jimmy Carter

Former President Jimmy Carter died Dec. 29, 2024, at age 100. Carter was elected president of the United States in 1976 and served one term. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. The Plains, Georgia, native was a U.S. Navy submarine commander, peanut farmer, state senator and Georgia governor.  In 1982, Carter became University Distinguished Professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and with his wife, Rosalynn Carter, founded The Carter Center. The nonpartisan center works to resolve conflict, promote democracy, protect human rights and prevent disease and other afflictions.
