Chuck Hagel, Robert Gates, Marco Rubio coming to May 11 Sunday shows

Overseas chaos gripped the nation again this week, with renewed fury over the handling of Benghazi by President Barack Obama’s administration, continued skepticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s goals for eastern Ukraine, and widespread concern for 276 missing Nigerian school girls.

The Sunday news shows announced lineups with a focus on these issues, with some input coming from past and present secretaries of defense. The Department of Veterans Affairs, embroiled in accusations of using wait lists to delay medical care for veterans, is also in the pipeline.

Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates will appear on CBS’ Face the Nation, and his replacement, Chuck Hagel, will appear on ABC’s This Week.

We’ll also hear from possible presidential contenders.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., will promote her book A Fighting Chance (and likely address 2016 questions) on Face the Nation, which will also include Sunday show regular Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

This Week will feature U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican who may make a bid for the White House in 2016 despite losing some conservative cred in pushing immigration reform.

Over on Fox News Sunday, Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., will talk about what his new select committee wants to find out about the Benghazi attacks and who may be asked to testify. Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif., will also be on the show to represent the Democrats’ point of view, which includes a possible committee boycott.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria John Campbell comes to Fox to talk about the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram, the militant group that kidnapped the girls as part of its violence in the country. The group is responsible for the deaths of more than 1,500 people in 2014, according to the Associated Press.

There will be no Meet the Press on NBC.
