By Bill Wichert
November 7, 2012

From the presidential race to contests in New Jersey for U.S. Senate and House seats, incumbents came out on top in Tuesday’s election.

President Barack Obama defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney after taking several battleground states, including Virginia and Ohio.

Check out every fact-check on Obama’s statements by visiting his Truth-O-Meter file here, and see if he’s kept his 2008 campaign promises in this story from our PolitiFact National colleagues.

New Jersey’s U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, a Democrat, won a second term after soundly defeating Republican challenger, state Sen. Joe Kyrillos.

Menendez received 58 percent of the vote and Kyrillos walked away with 40 percent, according to unofficial results.

To see all of PolitiFact New Jersey’s fact-checks on the U.S. Senate race, go here. You can review every fact-check on Menendez claims here, and on Kyrillos claims here.

Also on the ballot Tuesday were 12 House races in New Jersey, including a few incumbents who have previously faced the Truth-O-Meter.

In the 7th Congressional District race, Rep. Leonard Lance, a Republican, defeated Democrat Upendra Chivukula, 58 percent to 40 percent, according to unofficial results.

Republican Congressman Jon Runyan also held onto his seat in the 3rd Congressional District, fending off beating Democrat Shelley Adler. You can see all of our fact-checks from that battle here.
