What’s coming up on the Sunday talk shows

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s damage control, the 50th anniversary of the War on Poverty and President Barack Obama’s foreign policy are on deck for the Sunday talk shows.

NBC’s Meet the Press will have the Republican response to Christie’s troubles stemming from aides who apparently caused huge traffic jams as political retribution against a city’s mayor. Republican National Committee chair Rence Preibus will be on the show. A panel of Mark Halperin, Chuck Todd, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, and Wall Street Journal columnist Kim Strassel will look at the scandal’s impact on the 2016 presidential race.

CBS’s Face the Nation will have the transportation chair in the New Jersey Assembly, John Wisniewski. ABC’s This Week brings in former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and crisis manager Judy Smith to discuss Christie’s woes, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., and former White House adviser David Plouffe, as well as Donna Brazile and Matthew Dowd join the panel.

Also appearing on CBS is Florida Republican Senator Sen. Marco Rubio, who this past week stirred a lot of discussion with a speech about income inequality in America. Rubio called the War on Poverty a failure and offered some proposals that drew barbs from conservative as well as liberal circles.

Lawmakers on both sides are talking about what they would do to reduce poverty. Fox News Sunday brings in Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla., chair of the Republican Study Committee’s Anti-Poverty Initiative, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., ranking member of the House Budget Committee.

On foreign policy, host Chris Wallace has Sen James Inhofe, R-Okla., ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sen Ben Cardin, D-Md., a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to talk about this week’s gains by al-Qaida in Iraq.

NBC’s angle is the book by former Defense Secretary Robert Gates and what it has to say about President Obama’s foreign policy. Panelists include former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., Jeffrey Goldberg with The Atlantic, former Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., and Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC’s Hardball.

CNN’s State of the Union continues its series of potential presidential candidates in 2016 with Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley. Host Candy Crowley will get O’Malley’s take on Christie and his ideas to increase economic mobility.
