Fact-checking House Speaker Will Weatherford

By Katie Sanders
May 17, 2013

Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford was front and center in this year’s legislative session.

He’s also been a big presence on our Truth-O-Meter lately. We fact-checked six statements from Weatherford since February.

Most of our checks relate to his session priorities of phasing out the state pension fund, increasing university tuition, refusing federal dollars to expand Medicaid and raising campaign contribution limits.

There was also the time he said 1,000 people are moving to Florida a day “because they are more free here than they are in some other states.” (We rated that Mostly False.) Browse Weatherford’s PolitiFact file to see what he’s been saying.
