Seeing Red? No, Taylor Swift didn’t cancel Eras Tour shows in red states

If your time is short

  • This claim originated on a satire page.

  • Taylor Swift finished the U.S. leg of her Eras Tour before the election. Her remaining tour dates are all in Canada.

Did pop star Taylor Swift tell half of America, “We are never, ever, ever getting back together?”

“Taylor Swift Cancels Red State Shows After Massive Red Wave, ‘I Won’t Be Performing Here Anymore,’” read a Nov. 10 Threads post which featured a red and blue electoral map and a photo of Swift performing at her Eras Tour. The post garnered more than 700 likes and 450 replies on Threads.

But don’t you worry your pretty little mind, as Swift would say: This claim originated as satire.

And, it’s impossible.

Swift is at the tail end of her two-year Eras Tour, and she has no U.S. tour dates remaining. She finished the U.S. leg of her tour in Indianapolis on Nov. 3, before the Nov. 5 presidential election.

Next she will head to Canada to perform several concerts in Toronto and Vancouver, British Columbia. So even if she wanted to, there are no U.S. tour dates to cancel.

The claim appears to have originated as satire. On Nov. 9, The Patriots Lovers’ Facebook page, whose bio reads: “We specialize in SATIRE,” posted the same claim with the label “Rated Satire.” The post linked to a story on SpaceXMania, a satire website whose ‘About Us’ page reads, “Our mission? To bring you the freshest fake news, some sassy analysis, and a good dose of satire.”

But the claim was later shared without a disclaimer, leading some to believe Swift had canceled shows based on political views.

Swift publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris following the Sept. 10 presidential debate in Philadelphia, but she has not canceled any tour dates following Harris’ loss to President-elect Donald Trump.

We rate this claim False.
