“Trump is addressing to the nation today.”

False

Trump didn’t give an address to the nation on June 27

If your time is short

  • This is false. Joe Biden is president, not Donald Trump.

Former President Donald Trump has come under increased scrutiny as the Jan. 6 House select committee plumbs what role he played during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. But among some of Trump’s fans, he is still wrongly considered the current commander in chief.

One June 27 Facebook post went so far to say that he was addressing the nation that day, even though the attached video didn’t mention it at all.

This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

Trump fairly lost the 2020 presidential election, and he is not president, nor did he address the nation on June 27.

He published several endorsements on his website that day, and on June 25, he spoke at a political rally in Illinois. We found no evidence of such a speech on June 27.

And even so, speaking at a rally or posting online is different from addressing the nation. An address to the nation is associated with the president’s office, and President Joe Biden is there — not Trump.

We rate this post False.
