If your time is short

  • U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., didn’t imply in an X post that she has committed a crime. The post was fabricated and shared as a parody in 2023.

See the sources for this fact-check

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert has defended embattled former President Donald Trump on X, but a purported post from the Colorado Republican about his criminal cases isn’t authentic.

“If they charge President Trump for his crimes, they could charge any of us for our crimes,”  an account with the handle @laurenboebert appears to write in an X post. “The rule of law means nothing to these people.”

An April 22 Threads post sharing the image was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

We found no evidence that Boebert posted this from either her @laurenboebert or @RepBoebert X accounts.

Searching for the statement online led us to “Lauren Boebert parody” TikTok posts and fact-checks from 2023, when this fake quote attributed to Boebert first started circulating online.

Back then, information that has been cropped out of the image in this Threads post indicates that it was fabricated. Below the supposed X post are the words: “Parody by Rub.”

We rate claims Boebert posted this False.
