Angelina Jolie is alive, despite social media posts claiming otherwise

A link shared recently on Facebook doesn’t say explicitly that actor Angelina Jolie is dead, but it’s the obvious conclusion users would draw from what looks like a news headline and image. 

“Hollywood reports very sad news about Angelina Julie, she is confirmed as…See more — newsc54.com,” the headline says. The image above it shows a framed photo of Jolie on a casket, on top of which two people are sobbing. 

A Facebook post sharing the link was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

The link itself leads to what initially looks like a news story before urging readers to download a browser extension, supposedly for security. (We don’t recommend doing this). The post itself doesn’t “confirm” any sad news about Jolie, much less her death. 

We found no credible news reports or other sources saying that Jolie has died, though there continues to be press about her widely covered divorce from actor Brad Pitt.

Newsc54.com, meanwhile, describes itself as “just another WordPress site.”
