A recent Instagram post suggests that the leader of the United Nations has embraced pedophilia, and encouraged Christians to do the same.

“UN chief: Christians who don’t accept MAPs will be excluded from society,” reads what looks like a news headline featured in a video in the Aug. 9 post that uses an abbreviation for “minor attracted persons.”

A woman in the video says: “So, the United Nations has warned Christians that if we do not fully accept the legalization of pedophilia that we will be excluded from participating in society.”

This post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

The headline in the video comes from an Aug. 6 post on The People’s Voice, a blog that has published numerous fabricated stories that PolitiFact has debunked. The U.N.-excluded Christians post was written by Sean Adl-Tabatabai, who has been linked to misinformation websites.

The post headline mentions the “UN chief”; the United Nations’ secretary-general is António Guterres, but the blog doesn’t mention him. Rather, the story cites “UN expert Victor Madrigal-Borloz.” But it doesn’t back up the claim that he — or Guterres — warned that Christians would be excluded from participating in society if they don’t embrace legalizing pedophilia.

In 2017, the United Nations Human Rights Council appointed Madrigal-Borloz as an independent expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and identity.

We searched for news stories to corroborate the claims in this blog post and reviewing the United Nations’ website and social media accounts, but found no credible sources corroborating that he, or anyone from the United Nations, said people, much less Christians, must embrace the legalization of pedophilia.

We rate this post False.
