Social media posts are often prone to exaggeration, but a description of a recent video is simply wrong.

“Watch Jim Jordan DESTROYS Pelosi with ‘possible’ JAILTIME after ‘committee’ JOKE with Liz Cheney,” reads an oddly punctuated and phrased Facebook post sharing the video.

This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook.)

The 10-minute-plus video shows Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, speaking at former President Donald Trump’s first post-presidential rally on June 26, 2021.

That’s several days before the U.S. House passed a resolution establishing the select committee to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, which the post seems to allude to by referencing its vice chair, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.

At the rally, Jordan didn’t mention Cheney. He did mention House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., saying about 16 minutes into this C-SPAN video, “Tonight as we sit here and talk, you can’t go to your Capitol to petition your member of Congress to redress your grievances because Nancy Pelosi won’t let you in.”

The crowd then chants, “Lock her up!” Jordan waited until they quieted and pivoted to talking about the border and freedom of speech.
