No, Joe Biden didn’t tweet this about Coca-Cola and minorities

If your time is short

  • Joe Biden didn’t tweet this.

The Coca-Cola company has faced some backlash for recently directing employees to a diversity training that encouraged them to “try to be less white.”

A fake Joe Biden tweet followed.

“I’m proud to see Coca-Cola educate their staff in cultural reappropriation,” begins what looks like a tweet from the president’s verified @JoeBiden account. “The disconnect is because the way white people talk leaving minorities confused. Black people communicate a certain way and me and my staff know how those kinds of people talk and it’s time white people learn to do the same. #justforthetasteofit #dietcoke.”

This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

The tweet in the Facebook post, which exceeds Twitter’s 280-character limit, does not appear in Biden’s Twitter accounts, @JoeBiden, @POTUS, and @WhiteHouse.

It also doesn’t appear in a ProPublica database of deleted tweets from the president’s accounts.

Such a tweet would have drawn wide news coverage but there is nothing to support that Biden actually said this.

We rate this post Pants on Fire.
