There were still 300,000 ballots remaining to be counted as an unnerving announcement started to spread on social media.

“Arizona trooper found 50,000 ballots in dumpster all for President Trump!!” one Facebook post said

It was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

But we checked with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. and a spokesperson and sergeant there told us that, actually, troopers have not found 50,000 ballots for President Donald Trump.

“It is not true,” a sergeant said.

We rate this Facebook post False.
