Evers-O-Meter: Budget makes progress on schools, roads promises

By Eric Litke
April 18, 2019

Budget season is in full swing in the state capital, making it a good time to update our Evers-O-Meter.

This is what we use to track promises Democratic Gov. Tony Evers made on the campaign trail. Similar to our Truth-O-Meter, we’ll assign a rating based on the status of the promise: In the Works, Stalled, Compromise, Promise Kept or Promise Broken. (We did the same for Gov. Scott Walker’s promises.)

This round of updates looks at pledges Evers made to increase funding for schools and roads, as well as one promise that’s already been kept and one where inaction has prompted action by prison inmates.

Withdraw Wisconsin from lawsuit seeking to overturn Obamacare

— Support ending solitary confinement

— Increase school funding by $1.4 billion over two years in first budget

— Increase spending on technical schools and UW System

— Increase spending on early childhood education

— Increase spending on local road maintenance

— Increase spending on public transit
