James Comey testifies before Senate about Trump, Russia

Former FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee about his interactions with President Donald Trump before Trump fired him.

In his opening remarks, Comey said he understood that the president can fire an FBI director at any time, for any reason, even though Congress initiated a 10-year term for the position. However, Comey said, he grew “confused and increasingly concerned” about his dismissal after shifting explanations from the White House.

Notably, Comey flat-out called Trump’s characterization of the FBI in chaos under Comey’s watch “lies, plain and simple.”
