Cornyn cages Stockman, Democrats may need runoff to settle Senate nominee

By W. Gardner Selby
March 5, 2014

Who’s in and who’s out?

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn sailed to his third Republican nomination for that post, crushing Rep. Steve Stockman, who had proclaimed tea-party qualities.

As we type, no Democratic Senate hopeful had sealed sufficient votes to avoid a May runoff for that party’s nomination. It could be that Dallas investor David Alameel faces Kesha Rogers, who has spoken of impeaching President Barack Obama, or attorney Maxey Scherr in a May runoff.

Unsurprisingly, Republican Greg Abbott cruised past his little-known foes to win the GOP nod for governor as Democrat Wendy Davis eased to her party’s gubernatorial nomination.

We’re stacking our latest fact checks of Cornyn, Davis and Abbott to the right. Only 84 days to the runoffs!
