Greg Abbott claim linking FBI to Wendy Davis lacks proof her work is under investigation

By W. Gardner Selby
June 27, 2014

News stories published in April, led by one by Wayne Slater of the Dallas Morning News, speculated the FBI might be reviewing work done by Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wendy Davis, a Fort Worth lawyer, for a North Texas government body.

Republican nominee Greg Abbott pounced, saying on Twitter Davis was under FBI investigation.

Abbott’s campaign topped that this week, just in time for the Texas Democratic Party convention in Dallas, with a highway billboard message saying Davis’ work is currently under FBI investigation.

Abbott’s camp cites those April news stories but offered nothing factual to us when we asked how Abbott, the attorney general of Texas, knows Davis’ work is currently facing federal scrutiny.

See it all laid out in our fresh fact check, to the right, rating Abbott’s billboard claim as Mostly False.
