Who the sports pundits picked to win the Super Bowl

By Aaron Sharockman
February 2, 2014

Sports pundits get paid to offer their expert opinions. So we wanted to see just how much those opinions are worth. We tracked 10 pundits to see who they thought would win Super Bowl XLVIII — the Seattle Seahawks or the Denver Broncos — and why. (We included scores when pundits offered one.)

Chris Berman, ESPN. Seahawks 23-21. “Defenses win championships.”

Chris Carter, ESPN. Broncos 27-20. “Just in case the Seattle wideouts didn’t like me.”

Trent Dilfer, ESPN. Broncos 27-24. “Seattle’s great, Peyton Manning’s greater.”

Jimmy Johnson, Fox. Broncos. “I just don’t think Seattle can score with Peyton Manning.”

Keyshawn Johnson, ESPN. Seahawks 23-21. “I picked them in the beginning of the year, and I got to stay true to form.”

Ray Lewis, ESPN. Seahawks 21-17. “Fast, physical, young. No pressure on them. Great team.”

Howie Long, Fox. Seahawks. “Can defense still win in this kind of game? … I’m going to go with Seattle. I’m going to go with defense.”

Willie McGinest, NFL Network. Seahawks. “I like their mentality. I like how aggressive they are.”

Deion Sanders, NFL Network. Seahawks. “I’m a defensive player. I love defense.”

Steve Young, ESPN. Broncos 27-17. “Peyton Manning and the Broncos offense will figure out a way to win this game.”
