Craig James, fellow Republicans in U.S. Senate race deplore Obama’s leadership

By W. Gardner Selby
May 17, 2012

Major Republican hopefuls to succeed U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas have lofted charges aplenty to keep the Truth-O-Meter bouncing. The claims sometimes target the qualifications of fellow Republicans — or criticize President Obama’s performance.

This week, former ESPN analyst Craig James roused a crowd in saying that Obama seeks to negotiate a treaty banning U.S. firearms. There may be a treaty regulating the international arms trade, but there’s no evidence the United States wants it to target your guns. Pants on Fire!

Meantime, a political group backing David Dewhurst for the Senate seat says GOP hopeful Tom Leppert pledged to make Dallas a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants. Leppert, the former Dallas mayor, once signed a pledge about leaving immigration enforcement to Uncle Sam, but it was no commitment to make the city a sanctuary. Mostly False.

The state’s Republican and Democratic primaries are May 29, 2012, though early voting began this week.
