Limbaugh v. Maher

By W. Gardner Selby
March 20, 2012

PolitiFact Georgia has taken a look at an offshoot of recent reports about Rush Limbaugh.

Our colleagues there note that conservatives paint liberal comedian Bill Maher as the same kind of public relations hazard for Democrats that Limbaugh may have become for Republicans.

As widely reported, Limbaugh recently ignited a firestorm when he called a Georgetown law student a “slut” and “prostitute” after she testified in Congress about health insurance and birth control. (To see her complete comments, see “Sandra Fluke on contraceptives and women’s health.”)

Essentially, Limbaugh used misogynistic terms to attack a woman whose political view he opposes.

President Barack Obama soon waded in, telephoning the law student to offer his support and to say he wouldn’t want his own daughters to be attacked because “they’re being good citizens.”

About that time, conservatives pointed out that at least one politician’s daughter has not been off-limits to Maher, who has donated $1 million to Obama’s super PAC Priorities USA Action.

Wonder how Maher’s comments compare to Limbaugh’s latest?

PolitiFact Georgia corraled all of Maher’s comments into a feature it calls “In Context.” Read the results here. (Caution: There’s ample bleeped language in this piece not suitable for family reading.)
