Some new broken promises on the Obameter

By Bill Adair
October 11, 2011
In addition to our fact-checking, we’ve been doing a lot of updates on the Obameter, our award-winning feature that tracks President Obama’s campaign promises.

If you’re keeping score, we’ve now got 148 rated Promise Kept, 44 Compromise, 51 Promise Broken, 69 Stalled, 194 In the Works and two not yet rated.

Lately, we’ve found many promises have a hit a brick wall in the Republican-controlled House and are going nowhere. We’ve rated many of them Promise Broken.

Some of our recent updates:

Double funding for cancer research. The funding increases simply haven’t come close to double, so we’ve rated this one Promise Broken.

Reform No Child Left Behind. The Obama administration has made substantial progress at funding the law, improving the assessments of student progress and making sure the program supports and doesn’t punish schools that need improvement. We rated this a Promise Kept.

Expand the Family Medical Leave Act to include leave for domestic violence or sexual assault. We rated this Promise Broken.
