PolitiFact adds three meters to the family

By Bill Adair
January 10, 2011

Regular readers know we’re big on meters here at PolitiFact. The meters are backed by solid journalism, and they provide a helpful way to communicate our work at a glance.

You can look at a Truth-O-Meter ruling and quickly see the relative accuracy of a claim. You can look at one of our campaign promise meters and know how well your leaders are doing at fulfilling their promises.

So we’re pleased to see three more states add meters to our repertoire.

PolitiFact Ohio has added the Kasich-O-Meter to follow the promises of incoming Gov. John Kasich. The meter is tracking 21 promises that range from phasing out the state’s income tax to blocking a passenger rail plan.

PolitiFact Oregon has the Kitz-O-Meter to keep track of the 34 promises from John Kitzhaber, who becomes governor this week. The promises include cutting social services and creating a state rainy day fund.

PolitiFact Georgia has the Deal-O-Meter to follow Nathan Deal, who will become governor today. We’re tracking 37 promises and have already rated his pledge to put his personal assets in a blind trust to be a Promise Kept.
