Fact-checking Boehner and Hoyer on ‘This Week’

By Bill Adair
June 14, 2010

We’re working on four items from Sunday’s edition of ABC’s This Week, which featured Bill Gates and Reps. John Boehner and Steny Hoyer.

We checked dueling claims by Boehner and Hoyer about when Congress has failed to pass a budget.

Hoyer said Republicans failed to do so in 2002, 2004 and 2006. We rated that Half True.

Boehner said the House had not failed to pass a budget in the modern era. We rated that True because Boehner was careful to specify the House; the Senate has failed several times.

We’re also looking into two claims by Donna Brazile and plan to post them Tuesday.
