OLCC remains a public entity

Oregon is among the states that control the flow of liquor, from purchase to storage to sales at the register. Some people would like to make us more like Washington, which recently moved to a privatized system like California's, where you can find bottles of gin and bourbon at the supermarket.

Kitzhaber said that he would keep the Oregon Liquor Control Commission a public entity, and he has. Now, grocers and others may try to get a measure on the 2014 ballot to privatize sales in Oregon but even if they succeed, OLCC would likely remain a public entity through the duration of Kitzhaber's first term, which ends in early January 2015.
