Ted Cruz leading Scott Walker in Texas? Not in Pants on Fire ratings

By W. Gardner Selby
February 23, 2015

Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is lately just a nick ahead of the pack among Republicans in Texas considering possible choices to be the party’s 2016 presidential nominee, according to a fresh poll.

But Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker appears to be surging.

The University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll, released today, lists Cruz as the preferred choice of 20 percent of poll respondents with Walker at 19 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tied with physician Ben Carson at 9 percent. Former Gov. Rick Perry shows up with 8 percent. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

As the Tribune’s news story makes clear, poll results can change.

Fact checks tend to last longer–and Cruz, Walker and othrs all have expanding Truth-O-Meter report cards.

At this moment, Walker has been fact-checked more than 120 times; his card tallies 10 Pants on Fire ratings. Cruz has been checked more than 40 times; he’s gotten four Pants on Fire ratings. Perry, fact-checked more than 150 times, beats them both (combined) with 18 Pants’  ratings. Jeb Bush? 4.

See Cruz’s full report card here — or peruse the PolitiFact report cards for WalkerBush and Perry. (Carson has yet to be fact-checked by us.)
