Trump: Voter polls show U.S. support for abortion “down a little bit”

By Lauren Carroll
June 30, 2015

Donald Trump, who in 1999 said he “was strongly pro-choice,” says he’s now against abortions along with the American public.

“In terms of polling, the pro-choice (support) is going down a little bit,” Trump said.

In contrast, the latest polling suggests that in May of this year, 50 percent of Americans identified as pro-choice compared to 44 percent of Americans identifying as pro-life. That gap hasn’t varied a lot over the years though the results reflect a slight increase in Americans identifying as pro-choice.

Meantime, PolitiFact Texas recently cited information from a Texas agency to conclude there are about 22 facilities licensed to provide abortions in the state. But that count could shrink considerably if health and safety restrictions put in motion by Republican state lawmakers take full effect. This week, the U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay enabling a challenge to the 2013 change in law to proceed.
