Rick Perry announces fresh presidential bid near Dallas

By W. Gardner Selby
June 4, 2015

Like you, maybe, we just watched former Texas Gov. Rick Perry declare for president afresh.

See our Twitter rundown of the most-viewed Perry fact checks over the years. OR comment on Facebook.

As Perry spoke, we listened for claims we’ve checked before or statements meriting review now.

For instance, Perry correctly said the Texas economy is the 12th-largest in the world. We fetched this chart, based on 2013 figures, from the Texas state comptroller’s office.

In his remarks, Perry also got it right when he said 1 in 10 Americans lacks a job and 1 in 5 children is on food stamps. We checked on this just yesterday.

Perry further said the U.S. has the world’s highest corporate income tax rate. Mostly True, PunditFact said in 2014.
