Ed Schultz on the Truth-O-Meter

By Aaron Sharockman
May 27, 2014

Last week, MSNBC pundit Ed Schultz claimed that Walmart employees receive “roughly $5,800” in public assistance per year.

That’s Mostly False, we found. The study Schultz cited relied on several assumptions and is narrowly focused on Walmart workers in Wisconsin. The authors of the study said people shouldn’t draw conclusions beyond Wisconsin’s borders.

Yet Schultz did just that.

Schultz’s latest claim makes nine that we’ve checked either as part of PunditFact or for PolitiFact.

You can see Schultz’s overall record here, but we’ll give you the 20,000-foot view. Of nine fact-checks, Schultz has yet to receive a rating above Half True. Six of Schultz’s claims have been rated Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire.

We keep similar scorecards on all our pundits. You can browse them all here.
