Is Census worker smoking gun in alleged jobs report rigging?

By Aaron Sharockman
November 20, 2013

Fox and Friends on Monday highlighted a story in the New York Post that alleged Census Bureau workers doctored unemployment figures to benefit President Barack Obama ahead of the 2012 election.

But host Elisabeth Hasselbeck took it a step further, saying the Post found a Census worker to admit to the conspiracy.

“Now we’re finding out there was someone on one side of the scale,” Hasselbeck told viewers. “There was a name, Julius Buckmon. … He told in an interview that he was told to make up information as he went along. This is on crucial information as we headed into an election season.”

But that’s not what the Post reported.

And even if it was, it’s unclear a rogue worker — or even several — could cause the national unemployment rate to dip as it did between August and September 2012 — from 8.1. percent to 7.8 percent.

To find ouf why, read our report.
