Further checking Ted Cruz on Medicaid expansion

By W. Gardner Selby
April 11, 2013

After PolitiFact rated as False a recent Ted Cruz claim about the negative effects of expanding Medicaid, the Texas senator objected, saying aspects of his claim had not been considered.

Senior writer Louis Jacobson dug in afresh, exploring two issues: Is there evidence from past Medicaid expansions that employers are apt to cancel their health coverage, leaving employees involuntarily forced onto Medicaid? And: If these unlucky people exist, is there evidence that they ended up with fewer medical options after joining Medicaid than they had on their previous plan?

The upshot was that the original rating stuck.

See Jacobson’s full write-up here.
