Running the numbers on Latino voting in Texas

By W. Gardner Selby
March 22, 2013

An adviser to Battleground Texas, the nascent declared effort to help Democrats win statewide in Texas, landed a guest appearance on Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report.”

Jeremy Bird made a losing bet at the end of the segment (click on the video to see that). But Bird stuck to his guns on his message that demographic changes and stepped-up voter turnout will make a difference for Democrats–and soon.

We noticed a single factual claim–that 54 percent of voting-age Latino citizens of the state registered to vote in 2008 while only 35 percent of adult Latino citizens ultimately voted.

There’s a researched basis for that. We rated the claim Mostly True.

Read on by going here or clicking on the headline to the right, where we’ve also nestled other fact-checked claims about Latino residents of the state some proudly call Tejas.
