OMG! Welfare Death Spiral?! Read before you FWD or RT

A map making the rounds claims that “11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed.” Even Texas’ attorney general, Greg Abbott, helped it spread.

Just a couple problems: That’s not what the map shows, and welfare recipients don’t outnumber workers even if you count 79 federal programs as “welfare.”

We talked to the Forbes columnist who wrote the original “death spiral” commentary piece – which was not as simple as welfare versus employment – and did math using both narrow and broad definitions of welfare. Read on to see what we learned.
