Checking facts before the Texas primary runoffs

By W. Gardner Selby
July 29, 2012

Our fact-checks in advance of the Texas primary runoffs include crime-tinged charges from a rough-and-tumble Travis County constable’s race and immigration-tied claims by the Republican U.S. Senate hopefuls.

But there’s more in our gallery — including our review of claims by state Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, that Texas Senate hopeful Donna Campbell has been calling for a 35 percent state-local-federal sales tax.

Also, a U.S. House candidate, Wes Riddle, hews to a claim that we found unsupported. He said on Facebook that the federal government is giving Russia some islands.

We’re piling up the latest checks; please look to the right.

Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
