Has cost of 2010 federal health care law doubled?

By Meghan Ashford-Grooms
March 23, 2012

A week before the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments about whether the 2010 federal health care law is constitutional, Texas U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz tweeted a claim that’s been racing through Republican circles in response to updated projections about the cost of the law.

“Did you know ObamaCare will cost nearly twice as much as initially expected — $1.8 TRILLION?” Cruz’s March 19, 2012 post said.

Not so, our friends at PolitiFact National found. Cruz’s statement received a False from the Truth-O-Meter.

An apples-to-apples comparison of the Congressional Budget Office’s 2010 and 2012 analyses show an increase, but of 8.6 percent, not 100 percent.

For the details, read the fact-check here.
