Video shows President Donald Trump was “booed at the Super Bowl.”

President Donald Trump attended the Feb. 9 Super Bowl at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome.

About five years earlier, during his first term, Trump also watched the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship in the Superdome. 

Footage of the president and first lady Melania Trump on the field is spreading on social media with the claim it shows the crowd booing them at the Super Bowl. 

But the clip is old and altered. 

“Trump gets booed at the superbowl,” a Feb. 9 Threads post said. 

“New Orleans understood the assignment!” another Feb. 9 Threads post said. “Trump booed mercilessly.”

These posts were flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)

The footage is from January 2020, when the Trumps went on the field for the national anthem before kickoff in the Louisiana State University-versus-Clemson University game.

It’s also been altered so audio that sounds like booing plays over the clip. This is especially apparent when the camera pans to Lauren Daigle, who performed the national anthem in 2020. (She sang “America the Beautiful” at the 2025 Super Bowl.)  In the original 2020 footage, Daigle can be heard clearly; in the footage now circulating on social media, her voice is silenced.
