Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President Donald Trump’s health secretary nominee, recently made false statements about U.S. diabetes rates, but a video that appears to show him promising a cure for the disease was altered.

“If I were to die tomorrow, I’d want every diabetic, including you, to know this,” Kennedy appears to say in the video. “Everything you thought you knew about diabetes is hundred percent wrong.”

As the video cuts away, what’s supposed to be Kennedy’s voice continues, decrying “white-coated culprits” and claiming that “there’s a new natural apple cider vinegar recipe you can start doing tonight and escape diabetes.”

The “diabetes-free life is just a few nights away,” Kennedy appears to say.

A Feb. 1 Facebook post sharing this video was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)

The original footage of Kennedy comes from a June 2024 interview he did with podcaster Joe Rogan. Kennedy briefly mentions diabetes in the three-hour conversation, claiming that he didn’t “know kids who had diabetes” when he was in school.

But Kennedy doesn’t say what he appears to say in the Facebook post’s video.

We previously fact-checked a similar altered video that uses the same footage from “The Joe Rogan Experience” and appears to show Kennedy promoting alternative diabetes treatment.

Although efforts to find a diabetes cure continue, none  exists yet.

We rate claims this is an authentic video showing Kennedy promoting a diabetes cure False.
