This isn’t an authentic Truth Social post from Donald Trump responding to Selena Gomez

Recordings of a video Selena Gomez reportedly posted to — and deleted from — Instagram on Jan. 27 showed the actor-singer crying amid the Trump administration’s recent mass deportation campaign against undocumented immigrants.

But a purported response from President Donald Trump isn’t authentic.

“Many Hollywood liberals have taken our actions to secure the border very personally, and are no doubt surprised that the government finally did something, after years of inaction,” what looks like a TruthSocial post from Trump said. “Actress Selena Gomez, best known as the third amigo on that murder mystery show that Chevy Chase wouldn’t touch, posted a video to social media where she was in tears over the deportations. Selena, these are people who broke the law by coming here! Some have also committed other horrible crimes. I hope Selena is just as upset about the victims of these crimes. Focus on your career – the people want a sequel to Spring Breakers!”

A Jan. 27 Threads post sharing the image said: “Trump responds to Selena Gomez’s meltdown.”

The White House didn’t immediately respond to PolitiFact’s questions about the post.

But we found no credible evidence, such as news reports, that Trump posted this.

It doesn’t appear on his Truth Social account.

Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, responded to Gomez and other critics in a Fox News interview, saying that they should “go to Congress and change the law.”

We rate claims this is an authentic Truth Social post from Trump False.
