In some corners of the internet, purported news involving Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and ABC talk show “The View” is surefire clickbait. That doesn’t make it real.

“BREAKING: Caitlin Clark declines $1 million offer from ABC to appear on ‘The View,’” an Aug. 5 Facebook post said.

This post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

This claim originated on a self-described satire page, America’s Last Line of Defense. Its Facebook bio says “nothing on this page is real.” The Facebook post resharing the claim did not label it as satire.

We looked for but found no evidence, such as credible news reports or public statements, that Clark has made any comments about “The View.”

The Facebook post also claims that Clark turned down a “massive Nike endorsement worth $400 million” because she was critical of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. We previously fact-checked that and found it false.

So is this. We rate claims Clark turned down a $1 million “The View” appearance False.
