Space Sham: NBA star Michael Jordan didn’t slam Disney’s ‘woke ideologies,’ as some posts claim

Former NBA and “Space Jam” star Michael Jordan didn’t decry The Walt Disney Co., despite a claim bouncing around the internet.

“Breaking: Michael Jordan Rejects $400 Million Disney Offer, Stating ‘I Do Not Collaborate With Companies Aligned With Woke Ideologies’ In Bold Move,” an Aug. 3 Facebook post said.

It was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

We found no news stories, public statements from Jordan and other credible sources to corroborate this claim. A quick online search led us to the self-described satire site and Facebook account where this fantasy originated.

SpaceX Fanclub, which notes on Facebook that nothing it shares on the platform is real, posted the claim Jan. 12.

In 2023, fact-checkers checked a similar claim that Jordan had turned down a $120 million ad campaign with Disney.

It wasn’t real then, and it isn’t real now. We rate posts without the satire disclaimer False.
