stated on June 20, 2023 in an interview:
“Man sues McDonalds for still being depressed after eating happy meal.”
He’s not lovin’ it? Headline about McDonald’s being sued over Happy Meal originated on satire site
A seeming case of false advertising is actually just fake news.
“Man sues McDonalds for still being depressed after eating happy meal,” reads what looks like a July 2, 2017, news headline that forgot the apostrophe in the fast food restaurant’s name.
An Instagram post sharing a screenshot of the headline was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)
The story originated on a self-described “satire news and humor website” that publishes “fiction.”
The supposed depressed man who sued McDonald’s? Ruben Caradehuevo, whom the story quotes as saying, “Even an hour after finishing my food, I still was depressed. So I decided to sue McDonalds.”
We rate claims that this is an authentic story Pants on Fire!
