Says a Michigan funeral home employee was “cremated by mistake while taking a nap.”

Pants on Fire!

Story about accidentally cremated funeral home worker is still false

Back in 2017 we debunked a story that a Texas morgue employee was accidentally cremated while taking a nap. Now a Michigan funeral home employee was allegedly “cremated by mistake while taking a nap.”

Maybe it’s gallow’s humor. But the Feb. 25 post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

That’s because it seems the story originated on this website, which describes itself as a “satire web publication.” (The story has since been deleted from the site.)

Reposted on the-daily-star.com, however, there’s no such context cluing in readers that this didn’t actually happen.

We rate it Pants on Fire.
