Mary Ellen Klas joined the Miami Herald as Tallahassee bureau chief in 2004, and has been covering Tallahassee politics since 1988. A native of Minnesota, Mary Ellen worked as a business reporter for The Palm Beach Post in 1986, after graduating from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. She became The Palm Beach Post's Tallahassee bureau chief in 1990 and, from 1994 to 2004, she worked as a senior reporter for The Post and for Florida Trend.
