Kristen Jordan Shamus is a journalist covering health and gender for the Detroit Free Press. Her stories and columns most often touch on the ways in which health and gender topics intersect with politics and social justice issues. She's a graduate of Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and considers herself a North Country girl, having grown up in the Adirondack Mountain region of New York. She has worked more than two decades in journalism, with the last 15 years at the Free Press. She and her husband, Greg, have three children (who are growing up far too quickly) and a very sweet yellow Labrador.
