Tim Scott, a South Carolina Republican senator, joined the U.S. Senate in 2013. In 2023, he sought the Republican presidential nomination but suspended his campaign in November. Scott was previously elected to the Charleston County Council, the South Carolina House of Representatives and the United States House of Representatives.
