Deidre DeJear is the Democratic nominee for governor of Iowa in 2022. She previously ran as the Democratic nominee for secretary of state in 2018, losing to Republican incumbent Paul Pate. She was the first Black woman in Iowa to win a major political party nomination for statewide office. DeJear cofounded a nonprofit, Back 2 School Iowa, and has run Caleo Enterprises, a consulting firm, since 2008. She served as Iowa campaign chair for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in 2020.
